School On Wheels For Skid Row Kids

Founded in 1993, School On Wheels is a non-profit organization in Los Angeles that helps provide free tutoring to homeless youths living on Skid Row, the streets, in cars, foster care, motels, and elsewhere.

It’s important to continue to bring awareness to this charity and others like it that may exist in other cities, as they play a crucial role in providing learning opportunities to kids living in compromised conditions.

According to a recent report, 1 child in every 20 in California, doesn’t have a home.

Made up mostly of volunteers, this dedicated group focuses mainly on teaching reading and writing to these youths who aren’t able to attend school.

They depend entirely on donations to continue to thrive and provide this wonderful service, along with providing backpacks with supplies to these students as well.

We’ve not yet met with anyone from this charity, but hope to soon. In the meantime, we’ll do a little searching online to see if they have a wish-list posted anywhere that we can possibly contribute to.  With the cold weather starting, they’ll likely be looking for gloves, blankets, and warm clothing along with school and art supplies.

We’d love to know of other charities that are providing education and hope to street kids. Please share in the comments.
