Bonding Through Cooking Together

A few days ago we were blessed with hearing a woman’s story of a personal journey that took her out of her daily routine and launched her unexpectedly into an incredible healing experience.

She’d been invited by a friend to join a “women’s circle”, which she’d never before heard of, much less participated in. Her first instinct was to give it a whirl, then her logic brain took over, coming up with a variety of excuses; she had no time, it seemed silly, sounded too “woo-woo” etc.

Thankfully, that little intuitive voice persisted and eventually won out as she reasoned that she certainly had nothing to lose other than a handful of hours with some ladies in what sounded to be a safe environment a few blocks away and it included a home-cooked dinner.

Aaaand, it was basically free.  All they’d requested is, if possible, to bring something for the soup they’d all be creating together.

No dress code, come as you are.  Be comfortable!

Knowing she could join this group of new people and just be herself, without an ounce of pressure as to what she looked like, where she came from, financial / job status… none of that mattered.  All that mattered was that you wanted to be there, that you showed up, and that you might participate in preparing and/or cooking some food with a group of others who’re there for the very same thing.

That was her first huge “whoosh” as she felt some of the  tension she’d become so used to, begin to dissipate, and a deep feeling of comfort washed over her where the tension had been.

Upon arriving, the women began almost immediately washing & chopping vegetables, chatting away as they fell into the rhythm of collectively preparing the huge pot of soup.

And as the soup was cooking, they gathered in a circle in another room, taking turns sharing whatever the heck they felt like sharing. Then when the soup was ready, they ate together, cleaned up, many hugged as they said their  goodbyes, and they all went home.

She didn’t go too much into details of the evening, but the way her eyes sparkled and her smile was lighting up her face, she didn’t need any words to express that what she’d experienced was something incredibly beautiful and life-changing.

By taking that  chance of  trying something outside of her comfort zone,  this wonderful befriending and bonding with others came to be.  It awakened  feelings and new perspectives from  within her that she can’t wait to experience more of, she came out of it with a bunch of new friends she may never have met otherwise, and whom she can’t wait to experience new adventures with.

From cooking soup.

It’s truly the little things that make the ride of life worthwhile.  The spaces in between.

The journey…

We’d love to hear about some everyday things or occurrences that are special to you and that you cherish.  Please share freely….

Namaste.  <3
