Kids Are Our Mirrors

Something we do quite a bit of around here… is reading.  We’re voracious for learning & for new life experiences.  Sometimes we get so intrigued  by a topic we read about, that we just can’t let it go.  And sometimes, said topic will just kind of get filed under something like a “watch later” playlist for just enough time, that we forget where we initially even read it / heard about it in the first place.

The latter brings us up to right here right now and should hopefully explain the cruciferous sketch du jour.

Where it stems from is that something randomly triggered us to think about Japan.  That thought led to how much we love Japanese food.  Yummm….

From there we suddenly remembered reading a fairly recent study that’d been done by an American-based group of doctors on the eating habits of Japanese children.

(This next part is just SO great and really tickled us pink!)

On average, when asked what their favorite food is, the most popular (and surprising!) answer across a broad span of Japanese children… was broccoli.

Yes, broccoli.

Of course the researchers were completely mystified and began asking Japanese adults about this seeming phenomenon. The simple reply was, “well, yes, of course they love broccoli. We teach our children to eat healthy. Don’t you?”

Mind.  Blown.

Something important to think about from all this, is how broccoli (specifically broccoli sprouts) is one of THE number one superfoods in the world.   To teach our children to eat healthy and love eating things that are truly good for them from an early age is incredibly important.

Sure it can be a challenge in a world of go,go, go, but it’s 100% possible and in doing so, we’re setting our kids up for success on many levels all at once.

If you’d like for us to expand on anything we’ve mentioned here, let us know.  We’re more than happy to! <3

There’s another book we read recently from 1906 in which something the author stated wraps all of this up in the most beautiful thought to take with you.

Eventually we’ll dig up the exact quote and post it, but the gist of it is this:

We take so much time and care in keeping the outside of our bodies clean, and it’s important we treat the insides of our body with even greater care and be mindful of what we put into them.
