Mental Help for the Holidays
Along with the immense amount of joy this holiday time of year brings to so many, we must also acknowledge and be mindful of the difficulty and heaviness that it brings to countless others.
For every person who bubbles with joy at the first sight of holiday lights, there is another who begins to crumple into feelings of darkness.
The holiday music that fills the air with intent on being a harbinger of warmth, family, love, gifts, food, and rejoicing, also can be a relentlessly painful trigger that may ultimately cause those without any of those things to feel… well, lower than whale poop.
For months.
Until it’s over.
Add to that, the time change making night come earlier, and the weather turning colder…
ugh…just getting through each day can be emotionally excruciating.
We’ve experienced both sides of this equation, and have found strength and solace in warmlines and hotlines for when the going gets super-tough and there’s seemingly no one to talk to. These amazing souls are true lifelines and for whom we’re eternally grateful.
We understand that for some, getting through these months
is just too much,
and for a few, it may not happen
at all.
Something we value highly here at The Optimism Lab is serving one another through thick and thin, and there’s no better time than now to be of service.
Holidays can be tough!!!
To give the gift of kindness, peace, comfort, and understanding is priceless, and one of the absolutely most important and impactful things one could do for the very spirit of the holiday season.
Volunteering doesn’t even have to be in person, there are many hotlines and warmlines that are constantly in need of volunteers and have plenty of options for helping out remotely either by answering calls or by texting. Many of them operate 24/7, and allow for choosing whatever days/times work with your schedule . A quick online search with a preferred zip code should yield plenty of results.
Oh, and in case you were wondering….
You. Are. Loved. <3
