Internet Archive x Stanley Kubrick

We don’t often post events here at The Optimism Lab, but when great things we love come together we like to think it may in some way inspire others, (i.e. Kubrick x The Internet Archive), so felt we simply must share!

This event sounds so COOL!!!

For anyone not yet familiar, The Internet Archive is an incredibly important organization run by a group of beautiful souls dedicated to preserving our digital history.  We could fill pages with all the great things we have to say about them and what they do. Oh, if only we lived close enough  to attend their unique live events.

We just found out a few days ago that they’ll be showing a very early film by Stanley Kubrick that’s been preserved in the archives and that we’d never even known existed before.

Everything about the entire art and function of film-making makes our hearts bloom and we’ve loved the work of Stanley Kubrick since… forever.  We wish more people understood what true visionaries Directors are and the passion, skills, and creativity of the journey of taking an idea to the completed film. It’s mind-boggling. The last thing we recall attending that opened up the eyes of thousands to this, was the Kubrick exhibit at LACMA in 2013.  No words describe the majesty we witnessed there. The display of lenses alone… ooof!

(Unrelated  *fun fact*   - As teens we’d even incorporated Kubrick’s name into one of our avatars for a game we used to play by mail (think dungeons and dragons, only less fancy, and each turn would take at least a week…lol) True story,)

Kubrick’s intensity, brazenness, next-level creativity, and unusual ways of looking outward in any chosen direction, has always struck deep chords within us. He’s so far beyond being a talented storyteller… he’s an experience-master, an emcee to the inner psyche, the stranger you’d climb into the van for to get the candy….

Would love to see this early work (any of his early work!) & find out what he could do with a skeleton crew!
